In Align, Young focuses on the relationship between forms—how they meet, overlap, or remain deliberately apart. Built from two or more primary shapes, the works stage encounters across the surface, pressing into one another, hovering nearby, or holding a measured distance.

These relationships are not resolved cleanly. Instead, they are worked through layering, abrasion, sanding, and reworking until contact and separation become equally present. Some surfaces retain dense texture, bearing the accumulation of force; others are sanded nearly smooth, their calm finish masking the labor required to reach it. Rather than pursuing harmony, Align examines adjustment as effort—where alignment remains provisional and continuously negotiated.
